Top Comics for March 31,2010

This week has some pretty sweet titles coming out. Here's my list for the top three to buy for March 31,2010.

The comic coming in third place is Dark Wolverine #84. Dakken has had a pretty significant role in Dark Reign with such things as being an Avenger for Norman Osbourne and killing Frank Castle. I haven't been completely into Dark Wolverine just because at first I thought it was a cheap way to get people to like Dakken but in the end it worked for me. I really like how hes pretty much just like his father in every way and he hates it. He's the Wolverine that people think Logan is when they hear the name Wolverine. When the whole seige started to happen he wanted nothing to do with it but like everybody else was forced into it. He got completely rocked by Thor but Dakken has his own story going on. He apparently is going to be ruler of the God's underworld. This wouldn't make much sense but because asgard is on earth they had to pick someone locally and Dakken is perfect for the job. However this turns out I'm sure it'll be an interesting read because it always is with Dakken.

Coming in second this week is X-Men's major push from Marvel. X-Men the second coming has been promoted for months now with wonderfully done shots of cyclops, wolverine, and all the major players in the X-men world. Second Coming is the story of the "one" Hope Summers coming back from the future with her caretaker cable. X-men is really big on the whole time travel thing. I'm not too sure where this is going to lead and how it's going to play out but I chose this pretty much based on the fact that Marvel has given the X-men title such a huge push for the Second Coming. It's good to see the team altogether again and to see hints of the possible return of the phoenix. One of my favorite arcs in the X-Men world.

This week's top comic should come as no surprise to anyone. Blackest Night has been one of DC's biggest events in a long time. This is mainly because of the top notch writing and amazing art. It brought me back to being a DC fan. I was completely out of the DC world and my local comic book guy started to bug me to start reading it. I blew it off and then eventually gave it a shot. By the second issue I was hooked and have been reading anything connected to title. Blackest Night #8 brings an end to the issue and will hopefully resolve and answer all the questions that have been given to us. How will this all turn out for the DC universe and even more importantly how will it impact the world of the Lanterns. Will they go back to fighting each other? Will they section off the universe and rule each of their own separately? How will this turn out for Sinestro and will he remain the white lantern? So many questions come to mind and with the recent release of GL #52 it just makes me more eager to read Blackest Night #8.

This Week's Comics in Review

This week had a few new comic releases. The beginning of Marvel's Nemesis and Peter Parker. It also was the week of the much anticipated Green Lantern #52. Spoiler alert Sinestro is the white lantern  : O . I just blew everyone's mind with that one.

This week's first comic that I read was Mighty Avengers #35. I don't know what it is but I'm really enjoying this series. I think maybe because how much of a pompous guy Pym is or just how the team is completely fallen apart. It feels like the writers know that it's crashing and burning and they're having a fun time while it lasts. 35 shows that after the whole Loki mess that the team has separated from Pym and went their separate ways. The funny thing about this is that Pym appears that he could careless about it. He's just so focused about his scientific studies. The story is mainly about the uprising of Pym's old foe Voltron and the collapse of the Mighty Avengers. It's almost like watching a plane crash. I know I shouldn't be looking but I can't help myself. There is also a pretty big surprise at the end. I'm giving Mighty Avengers #35 a four out of five. Whenever this series ends which I'm sure will be pretty soon after the end of Siege and the rebirth of the avengers I hope Pym will still have a role in the marvel universe because he's a real interesting guy.

As a fan of Spider-man and a devoted follower of Amazing Spider-man I can't deny that I was pretty happy to see the next read come out. Peter Parker is a new upstart series I'm guessing about Parker more than Spidey or atleast that's what they're shooting for. I felt like this was a good story and I really had no problem with it but I'm wondering why it's called Peter Parker. I was reading it and kept thinking this really is just another spidey book and I really don't have a problem with that but I'm hoping that will change in the next issue. It has plenty of just Parker moments but so does Amazing Spider-man that's why I don't really know why there's a need for a similar title. I gave Peter Parker a three out of five. It's an alright beginning and if they keep going with more Parker stories I think it'll become a well rounded comic.

Mark Millar is obviously most known for his "Kickass" title. I'm a fan of Kickass It's a really cool book full of style. With his new series Nemesis this doesn't change at all. Nemesis starts like most of Millar's work by punching you straight in the face. It's stylish and I really think that's the best word for it. It has a real natural villainous bad guy feel to it. Nemesis knows he's the best and he knows he's going to get the job done. I really like how this is going and I'm eagerly waiting for the next issue. Now maybe this really isn't the best for a younger crowd because it has the classic millar completely detailed violence in it. The first death really explains to me where he's going in the series. Not that it's a bad thing because I'm all for over the top violence but for kids I think they should stay away. What Millar showed in this issue is Nemesis is not joke and he's not someone to mess with. I gave Nemesis a 4.5 out of 5. Keep up the good work Mark Millar and the artwork is grade A without a doubt.

My Last comic that I'm reviewing this week is Green Lantern #52. I'm not sure how everyone feels about GL but I couldn't wait for this issue to come out. I mean I think this might be the coolest shot of Sinestro I have ever seen. He's so arrogant and he should be because he's the white lantern. For the most part this really didn't have too much information mostly it was about how the color of each ring was developed and we learned this through the enlightened eyes of sinestro.  First spread of Hal looking at the newly kick ass sinestro was just a great shot. It just shows how he feels about the whole situation and how the unusual happened. I've never been one that thought Sinestro was a bad guy he was just lost in his ways. He always did what he did for the law of the land even if he did it in insane ways. This issue's art was just great. I mean it was just page after page of amazing art. The full page spreads were so full of color and just amazingly drawn. We pretty much just got a prelude for Blackest Night #08 but I'm okay with that because it would have been odd if they gave away too much in the GL comic rather than the Blackest Night comic. Blackest night comes to an end next week and with Sinestro in front I'm sure this is going to end in a huge way. I gave Green Lantern #52 a four out of five. Not too much content but with the amazing art and teasers for the Blackest Night ending I really enjoyed this issue.

This week seemed to have alot of starting comics and preludes to major things. I can't wait for next week to see the final issue of Blackest Night. Hopefully by then Sinestro will feel better from having a splitting headache. Okay I realize that was stupid but I couldn't resist.
 

Amazing Spider-man #627 Preview

Spider-man's luck hasn't been too good lately, to be honest it's been down right awful. Week after week there's a new main villain going after his throat. If it isn't someone from his past it's someone trying to take the place of one of the old villains. Okay so I'm not a huge fan of the new vulture and I'm sure most aren't but I think they redeemed that situation with the complete destruction of the new Rhino. To just rain on Parker's parade he was also fired for trying to help out JJJ. What a classic turn of horrible luck for Spidey. This week is no different with the appearance of Juggernaut. If this is a new Juggernaut I'm going to be a little turned off for the series but with this really epic looking cover it looks like it'll be an interesting one.

Finally Back!

After a long delay Daily Do Nothing is finally back. My computer has been down and out for awhile and I just couldnt get it working. I tried to keep updated through my ipod but after almost a month I just couldn't keep up with it. Now that I finally got my comp back Ill be updating as much as possible. I'm sorry for letting it slow down but I'll try to keep up with the news and also I'll have plenty of reviews and previews :)

Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull

There isn't much known about the upcoming Captain America movie. No one knows the release date or who is even playing Captain America. The rumor mill is acting again and now it's about Captain America's
biggest villian Red Skull. The current rumor is Hugo Weaving will be filling the role. Hugo Weaving is best known for his roles in The Matrix Trilogy as agent smith and the elven higherup in Lord of the Rings. Most recently he was in The Wolfman. At this time this is only speculation but that goes for most of the Captain America movie.

Avengers Academy home for random characters?

I was going to post the new pictures released for the Avengers Academy but it doesn't seem to be worth it. After about the third release I was starting to doubt just how much time has been put to coming up with these characters. It reminds me of the beginning of comics where everyone had name based on a power like laser beam or jumping Jack. With names like striker and Finese I really hope that they have sterdy storylines that will distract people from their generic names. Bottom line It seems like they're going a little overboard with the rebirth of the Avengers. Maybe the next reveal will be kid captain America or Tin the boy made of tin. Time will only tell how this will unfold.

Batman and Robin #10 and The Amazing Spider-Man #623 Reviews

Batman and Robin issue ten seems to be the most promising issue to date. It seems to finally be going somewhere significant. Now I'm not saying the first nine issues were bad because they weren't but they seemed not very tied to anything major for the DC universe. After the events of the latest issue it seems that the return of Bruce Wayne is coming and the current Batman and Robin are going to have a huge part in the detective work involved. My favorite part of the comic was when Damon asked Dick if Bruce comes back if they could still be Batman and Robin. He seems so invested in the whole idea. If you haven't been reading Batman and Robin now is the time to hope on. I give Batman and Robin #10 a 4.5 out 5. It's well worth the read and it seems like it's just getting warmed up.





The Spiderman writing crew are busy as it is but in March they're pumping out an issue a week. That's five issues in one march! With these cutthroat deadlines I wouldn't be too suprised if they slipped up a bit but so far so good. The mini arc of the new vulture is continued in 623 and it proves to be a pretty rough one for Parker. Last thing we saw in 622 was a menacing Vulture attacking J. Jonah and spidey trying to save him. It turns out it wasn't what it seemed. I don't want to give away too much because it was a pretty pivitol issue but Pete tries to help Mayor J. Jonah and it backfires on him in a huge way. Amazing spiderman has been really on a roll and after the big event of 623 I'm sure it's going to bring more great story. This is a good read and it seems like spidey is going to be in for some Dark times. I gave Amazing Spiderman #623 a four out of five.
