Reviews for the week of March 31, 2010

This week had it's ups and downs. No I'm not really talking about Blackest Night #8 but I'll get back to that later. This week just had some pretty weak comics but there were some strong ones too.

The first comic I'm reviewing this week is X-Men : Second Coming. Before reading this it was pretty much one of the main things I wanted to read. I was just really excited about the big push and all the promo shots that x-men was getting. It's nice to see that especially since I grew up in the 90's and the X-men were huge back then. I'm not to sure if it was really what I expected. It almost felt like a prelude or prequel before the "gigantic" event of the x-men. Nothing really major happened except for Hope returning, sure there was a pretty major plot twist at the end which I won't say for spoiler sake but even that wasn't that surprising. I pretty much figured that was going to be involved in one way or another. All together it wasn't that bad and the art work was nice but it just didn't have that much story to it. Since it's only the first in the arc I'm hoping there's more to come but if it keeps going this way it won't be worth getting into. I gave X-Men : Second Coming a three out of five.

The second comic this week was Justice League of America #43. This is involving of coarse the whole rise and fall arc. Atleast that's what it was suppose to but it really didn't have too much in it about the whole subject. It felt a bit odd almost like they thought oh we should have a panel of barry and hal going after the green arrow so we can tie it in. Other than that though it was pretty well written. I liked the different dialogues of everyone. It's always interesting to read Dick Grayson as Batman because he's so different and he's trying so hard to fill Bruce Wayne's shoes. The issue was all about how everyone and everything has changed and it felt a little sad almost like the JLA is about to break up. That's the vibe I got from this comic. I have to admit before the whole rise and fall arc I haven't been to involved with the JLA but with it's flaws for the most part it's pretty solid writing and I'll keep coming back to see what's next. I gave JLA #43 a 3.5 out of 5.

The final review for this week was Blackest Night #08 and I couldn't wait to get into the house and start reading it. It's been so long since the first Blackest Night came out. The majority comic book fans have invested a huge amount of time in the whole Blackest Night Event. What I first have to point out is that I really think the art was spot on. I really think they gave it their all when they drew this and it was greatly appreciated by me. I was pretty disappointed with 8 as a whole mainly because what I expected to happen happened and there was no major twists. I know why they did this and it's easy to see that they wanted to almost start anew with DCU and let everyone be involved. I just felt like they did the easy route to the end result. I'm not saying that it was an awful issue because it wasn't but it definitely wasn't one of the stronger issues of Blackest Night. There has been some crazy stuff in Blackest night and I felt like the last issue was really really sugar coated. It just felt like one huge prelude/promotion for Brightest Day. All and all I hoped for more but it could have been much much worse. I gave Blackest Night #08 a three out of five. Geoff Johns is a solid writer and one of my favorites out there but he needs to stop the safe endings. It's getting a bit tired.

There are some books that came out this week that I just wanted to quickly point out as good reads.Justice Society of America #36. It has Nazi's and Green Lanterns being blown up what could be better? Amazing Spider-man #627 shows Spidey getting in tangled with a wrecked Juggernaut and trying to find out who could have done it. It's just another week of good writing from the Spider-man team. Last one was Teen Titans I have read them in years but it was actually a really fun book. With Brightest Day coming out and Heroic Age just around the corner I'm sure April will be a fun month for comics.

Top Comics for March 31,2010

This week has some pretty sweet titles coming out. Here's my list for the top three to buy for March 31,2010.

The comic coming in third place is Dark Wolverine #84. Dakken has had a pretty significant role in Dark Reign with such things as being an Avenger for Norman Osbourne and killing Frank Castle. I haven't been completely into Dark Wolverine just because at first I thought it was a cheap way to get people to like Dakken but in the end it worked for me. I really like how hes pretty much just like his father in every way and he hates it. He's the Wolverine that people think Logan is when they hear the name Wolverine. When the whole seige started to happen he wanted nothing to do with it but like everybody else was forced into it. He got completely rocked by Thor but Dakken has his own story going on. He apparently is going to be ruler of the God's underworld. This wouldn't make much sense but because asgard is on earth they had to pick someone locally and Dakken is perfect for the job. However this turns out I'm sure it'll be an interesting read because it always is with Dakken.

Coming in second this week is X-Men's major push from Marvel. X-Men the second coming has been promoted for months now with wonderfully done shots of cyclops, wolverine, and all the major players in the X-men world. Second Coming is the story of the "one" Hope Summers coming back from the future with her caretaker cable. X-men is really big on the whole time travel thing. I'm not too sure where this is going to lead and how it's going to play out but I chose this pretty much based on the fact that Marvel has given the X-men title such a huge push for the Second Coming. It's good to see the team altogether again and to see hints of the possible return of the phoenix. One of my favorite arcs in the X-Men world.

This week's top comic should come as no surprise to anyone. Blackest Night has been one of DC's biggest events in a long time. This is mainly because of the top notch writing and amazing art. It brought me back to being a DC fan. I was completely out of the DC world and my local comic book guy started to bug me to start reading it. I blew it off and then eventually gave it a shot. By the second issue I was hooked and have been reading anything connected to title. Blackest Night #8 brings an end to the issue and will hopefully resolve and answer all the questions that have been given to us. How will this all turn out for the DC universe and even more importantly how will it impact the world of the Lanterns. Will they go back to fighting each other? Will they section off the universe and rule each of their own separately? How will this turn out for Sinestro and will he remain the white lantern? So many questions come to mind and with the recent release of GL #52 it just makes me more eager to read Blackest Night #8.

This Week's Comics in Review

This week had a few new comic releases. The beginning of Marvel's Nemesis and Peter Parker. It also was the week of the much anticipated Green Lantern #52. Spoiler alert Sinestro is the white lantern  : O . I just blew everyone's mind with that one.

This week's first comic that I read was Mighty Avengers #35. I don't know what it is but I'm really enjoying this series. I think maybe because how much of a pompous guy Pym is or just how the team is completely fallen apart. It feels like the writers know that it's crashing and burning and they're having a fun time while it lasts. 35 shows that after the whole Loki mess that the team has separated from Pym and went their separate ways. The funny thing about this is that Pym appears that he could careless about it. He's just so focused about his scientific studies. The story is mainly about the uprising of Pym's old foe Voltron and the collapse of the Mighty Avengers. It's almost like watching a plane crash. I know I shouldn't be looking but I can't help myself. There is also a pretty big surprise at the end. I'm giving Mighty Avengers #35 a four out of five. Whenever this series ends which I'm sure will be pretty soon after the end of Siege and the rebirth of the avengers I hope Pym will still have a role in the marvel universe because he's a real interesting guy.

As a fan of Spider-man and a devoted follower of Amazing Spider-man I can't deny that I was pretty happy to see the next read come out. Peter Parker is a new upstart series I'm guessing about Parker more than Spidey or atleast that's what they're shooting for. I felt like this was a good story and I really had no problem with it but I'm wondering why it's called Peter Parker. I was reading it and kept thinking this really is just another spidey book and I really don't have a problem with that but I'm hoping that will change in the next issue. It has plenty of just Parker moments but so does Amazing Spider-man that's why I don't really know why there's a need for a similar title. I gave Peter Parker a three out of five. It's an alright beginning and if they keep going with more Parker stories I think it'll become a well rounded comic.

Mark Millar is obviously most known for his "Kickass" title. I'm a fan of Kickass It's a really cool book full of style. With his new series Nemesis this doesn't change at all. Nemesis starts like most of Millar's work by punching you straight in the face. It's stylish and I really think that's the best word for it. It has a real natural villainous bad guy feel to it. Nemesis knows he's the best and he knows he's going to get the job done. I really like how this is going and I'm eagerly waiting for the next issue. Now maybe this really isn't the best for a younger crowd because it has the classic millar completely detailed violence in it. The first death really explains to me where he's going in the series. Not that it's a bad thing because I'm all for over the top violence but for kids I think they should stay away. What Millar showed in this issue is Nemesis is not joke and he's not someone to mess with. I gave Nemesis a 4.5 out of 5. Keep up the good work Mark Millar and the artwork is grade A without a doubt.

My Last comic that I'm reviewing this week is Green Lantern #52. I'm not sure how everyone feels about GL but I couldn't wait for this issue to come out. I mean I think this might be the coolest shot of Sinestro I have ever seen. He's so arrogant and he should be because he's the white lantern. For the most part this really didn't have too much information mostly it was about how the color of each ring was developed and we learned this through the enlightened eyes of sinestro.  First spread of Hal looking at the newly kick ass sinestro was just a great shot. It just shows how he feels about the whole situation and how the unusual happened. I've never been one that thought Sinestro was a bad guy he was just lost in his ways. He always did what he did for the law of the land even if he did it in insane ways. This issue's art was just great. I mean it was just page after page of amazing art. The full page spreads were so full of color and just amazingly drawn. We pretty much just got a prelude for Blackest Night #08 but I'm okay with that because it would have been odd if they gave away too much in the GL comic rather than the Blackest Night comic. Blackest night comes to an end next week and with Sinestro in front I'm sure this is going to end in a huge way. I gave Green Lantern #52 a four out of five. Not too much content but with the amazing art and teasers for the Blackest Night ending I really enjoyed this issue.

This week seemed to have alot of starting comics and preludes to major things. I can't wait for next week to see the final issue of Blackest Night. Hopefully by then Sinestro will feel better from having a splitting headache. Okay I realize that was stupid but I couldn't resist.

Amazing Spider-man #627 Preview

Spider-man's luck hasn't been too good lately, to be honest it's been down right awful. Week after week there's a new main villain going after his throat. If it isn't someone from his past it's someone trying to take the place of one of the old villains. Okay so I'm not a huge fan of the new vulture and I'm sure most aren't but I think they redeemed that situation with the complete destruction of the new Rhino. To just rain on Parker's parade he was also fired for trying to help out JJJ. What a classic turn of horrible luck for Spidey. This week is no different with the appearance of Juggernaut. If this is a new Juggernaut I'm going to be a little turned off for the series but with this really epic looking cover it looks like it'll be an interesting one.

Finally Back!

After a long delay Daily Do Nothing is finally back. My computer has been down and out for awhile and I just couldnt get it working. I tried to keep updated through my ipod but after almost a month I just couldn't keep up with it. Now that I finally got my comp back Ill be updating as much as possible. I'm sorry for letting it slow down but I'll try to keep up with the news and also I'll have plenty of reviews and previews :)

Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull

There isn't much known about the upcoming Captain America movie. No one knows the release date or who is even playing Captain America. The rumor mill is acting again and now it's about Captain America's
biggest villian Red Skull. The current rumor is Hugo Weaving will be filling the role. Hugo Weaving is best known for his roles in The Matrix Trilogy as agent smith and the elven higherup in Lord of the Rings. Most recently he was in The Wolfman. At this time this is only speculation but that goes for most of the Captain America movie.

Avengers Academy home for random characters?

I was going to post the new pictures released for the Avengers Academy but it doesn't seem to be worth it. After about the third release I was starting to doubt just how much time has been put to coming up with these characters. It reminds me of the beginning of comics where everyone had name based on a power like laser beam or jumping Jack. With names like striker and Finese I really hope that they have sterdy storylines that will distract people from their generic names. Bottom line It seems like they're going a little overboard with the rebirth of the Avengers. Maybe the next reveal will be kid captain America or Tin the boy made of tin. Time will only tell how this will unfold.

Batman and Robin #10 and The Amazing Spider-Man #623 Reviews

Batman and Robin issue ten seems to be the most promising issue to date. It seems to finally be going somewhere significant. Now I'm not saying the first nine issues were bad because they weren't but they seemed not very tied to anything major for the DC universe. After the events of the latest issue it seems that the return of Bruce Wayne is coming and the current Batman and Robin are going to have a huge part in the detective work involved. My favorite part of the comic was when Damon asked Dick if Bruce comes back if they could still be Batman and Robin. He seems so invested in the whole idea. If you haven't been reading Batman and Robin now is the time to hope on. I give Batman and Robin #10 a 4.5 out 5. It's well worth the read and it seems like it's just getting warmed up.

The Spiderman writing crew are busy as it is but in March they're pumping out an issue a week. That's five issues in one march! With these cutthroat deadlines I wouldn't be too suprised if they slipped up a bit but so far so good. The mini arc of the new vulture is continued in 623 and it proves to be a pretty rough one for Parker. Last thing we saw in 622 was a menacing Vulture attacking J. Jonah and spidey trying to save him. It turns out it wasn't what it seemed. I don't want to give away too much because it was a pretty pivitol issue but Pete tries to help Mayor J. Jonah and it backfires on him in a huge way. Amazing spiderman has been really on a roll and after the big event of 623 I'm sure it's going to bring more great story. This is a good read and it seems like spidey is going to be in for some Dark times. I gave Amazing Spiderman #623 a four out of five.

Preview for Punishermax

I wonder who Punisher is facing this time?

Reviews for March 10 2010 - One Shots, One Shots, and more One-Shots

This week didn't have too many recurring titles coming out. I thought I wasn't going to have much to write about because most of all my pull list didn't have anything new this week. I figured I should catch up with some comics that I fell behind in so I went to the local comic book shop and found out I was wrong about nothing coming out. About 90% of the comics this week that came out for the major labels were One-Shots. I'm usually a little down on One-Shots because if they're really good I wish I could see more and if they're really bad they have no way of redeeming themselves the next month. The One-Shots that I read this week were all very good. They were simple and to the point as most good one shots are.

Hulk : Let the Battle Begin was an interesting twist to the generic Hulk story. Sure we all know Hulk smashes things and breaks faces but how is it for Bruce Banner? I like how this story was told because it kept having flashbacks of the Hulk fight in between Bruce Banner trying to remember what exactly went on. The villains were the Wrecking crew and they apparently had Mt. Rushmore as a hostage which seemed so pointless but it was a likely idea the wrecking crew would come up with.  The vague retelling of the fight with Thor was really well told. What I liked about this story was it was a very basic story but it was entertaining. It also had Hulk talking which is always funny especially when people teach him new attacks ( you'll have to read it to enjoy that.). Overall it was a very fun read and I recommend it. Hulk : Let the Battle Begin gets a Four out of Five.

The next one shot I read was Justice League : Rise and Fall. This comic dealt with Green Arrow's falling  from being a hero to becoming a killer. If you read Cry for Justice you'll know exactly what this special is going to be out but what's good is they have a recap just in case you didn't. The Green Arrow was pushed to the edge and shot an arrow right into a certain somebody's head. The story was dark but not too dark to the point of blood and guts. It just shows Green Arrow giving up his heroic justice side for vengeance.  This one-shot special just gave you enough info to want to keep up with this story. I wasn't reading this arc until I bought this special and I know I'll be getting whatever is next for the Green Arrow. Justice League : Rise and Fall gets a 3.5 out of 5. I really liked this book the only down side is that it seems that it isn't too connected to the main stories of DC.

The last One-Shot I read this week was Mr.X Wolverine. Wolverine One-Shots have always been my favorite one shots because it always just deals with the action of Wolverine and rarely about is complicated past. The story is pretty simple. Mr. X fought Wolverine twice before and the last time they fought Wolverine one. Mr.X wants revenge and his rematch so he kidnaps a kindergarten class, that's right a kindergarten class. Don't worry he doesn't kill the kids but he kills somebody. It was a really intense over the top bad guy move even for a Wolverine villain. It was an all out fight after that. The main theme is all about controlling you're inner beast which is always an ongoing problem for Wolverine. If you like less story and more action with Wolverine then defiantly pick this one up. Mr.X Wolverine gets a 4 out of 5.

Most people usually stray away from One-Shots but this week is pretty weak for anything else and all of the one-shots that I've read were well worth it. So if you're waiting for the next Siege or Blackest night try picking up one of this weeks One-Shots.

Top Comics for March 10, 2010

This week seems to be an off week for comics because all the major comics are coming out next week or next month. There are still at least three comics that I think are worth picking up this week. Here are my top three comics for March 10,2010.

The comic that came in third this week is what seems to be a prequel to a major event for marvel. The comic is Hulk : Let the Battle Begin. The cover shows what the comic is all about. Hulk versus everyone in a no holds barred fight. This might be a really simple story but sometimes hulk smashing is the best part of the story.

The runner up this week is Wolverine: Mr.X. This what looks to be another Wolverine one shot. I don't really understand why Wolverine doesn't get alot of series but the one-shots always are really entertaining. It shows Wolverine doing what he does best which is simply dialog and a whole lot of action. Mr. X is back to fight Wolverine who was the only man to beat him. Last time they met Wolverine barely got out alive and I know this time it'll be just as intense.

First place this week goes to Justice League: Rise and Fall Special. This gets top mainly because it was the only DC comic that might be loosely tied in with Blackest Night and I have been dying for new stuff involving Blackest Night. It also looks interesting because it is all about the Green Arrow and his actions in Cry for Justice. It's nice to see Green Arrow in the spotlight since he really hasn't been too major of a player in Blackest Night but whenever they have him as a starring character it's always interesting.

Those are the top three but there are always a few that almost make the list. Batman and Robin #10 seems look it will be pretty cool since they are going to face off with each other since Robin is under mind control. The new mini series with Superman is defiantly going to be a must read I'm just a bit confused why they didn't wait until Blackest Night was done with until they started such a major event in the Superman World.

Preview of the Justice League : Rise and Fall

The fallout of Green arrows actions in Cry for Justice is finally going to catch up with him in Rise and Fall. The comic will be about how Green arrow and all of his friends are going to react and eventually live with the facts of Cry for Justice. Justice League : Rise and Fall hits tomorrow and seems like it's going to be a great read. I know I'll be picking it up.

Avengers Academy filling up

Today the second member of the Avengers academy was announced. It seems to be another new character. His name is Striker. It looks like they're creating these new characters for an attempt at building a new generation of super heroes. It seems like a good idea as long as they don't go over board with the writing or they make the characters seem too over the top. Hopefully there isn't werewolves and vampires going to this school too.

Avenger Academy revealed

Marvel came out with another Avenger teaser this time and no silver surfer isn't an Avenger. This promo shot has a new character who looks to be a teen girl named Veil. This brings up many questions as to what exactly is avenger academy going to be? Is it going to be the same type of school for super heroes as the X-men mansion is for mutants? Will the Avengers be the head of this academy? If I see Steve Rogers in a suit teaching I won't know what to say. The more we learn the more I'll post about the academy it's suppose to debut in June with the team of Christos Gage and Mike McKone.

Here is a quick list of comics that are coming out March 10, 2010.

Amazing Spider-man #624
Breaking into comics the Marvel Way #1

Criminal: The Sinners #5
Dark X-Men #5
DoomWar #2 out of 5

DC
Batgirl #8
Batman and Robin #10
Gotham City Sirens #10
Green Lantern Corps #46
Justice League Special: Rise and Fall
Red Robin #10
Superman - Last Stand of New Krypton #1

There is just a quick list of all the major comics coming out this week. I'll be putting up my top three ones that I'm looking forward to in a few days. Just to put a little preview of what I like most so far it would have to be Doom War and Green lantern Corps. Those are two pretty strong contenders for this weeks top three. Doom War just started but it has a very cool movie feel to it. It doesn't seem to tie to anything but it seems major I don't know how they pulled that off but can't wait for issue two. Hope the list helps out.

Preview for Web of Spider-man #6

Spider-man has been going against villain after villain. It seems like it never stops that why "The Gauntlet" is so fitting. The next villain to go after spidey is Lizard. It seems like we'll be getting a back story of Doc Conners and just how he lost his arm. I'm pretty sure we've heard this story about a billion times before but the writing team over at spiderman know what they're doing and I'm sure it will be another solid issue. It'll be interesting to see where the gauntlet goes after this and what villains are lined up to go after Peter after Lizard.

Sinestro's Future

Ever since the end of blackest night #7 Ive been wondering what is Blackest Night going to mean for the best Green Lantern in history. Of coarse you know who Im talking about and it isn't Hal Jordan. I hope no one is thinking I mean guy Gardner.
Sinestro has always been an interesting villian. I always considered him a villian in the same vein as Magneto where he seems like a bad guy that was forced in his own mind to become the way he is. I was excited to see sinestro join the rest of the lanterns to fight against the black lateens but felt like he was Just going to be a throw away character in the main scheme of blackest night. Geoff Johns suprised me again in making him take his rightful place in the series with force. It seemed so natural of a move to me for Sinestro.
Okay so at this point if you haven't read Blackest Night #7 then this will be spoiler filled. It has been clearly long enough though so it's no big deal. Now that we know there is a white lantern and Sinestro became that host what now? My personal gut feeling is Hal is going to take it over which would be a huge disappointment. I know Hal's the main character but this is bigger than that. It shows finally just how egotistical Sinestro is. It also showed maybe the guardians were to blame for Sinestro's departure. I keep trying to think of how this is going to turn out for him and I can't pick just one. So here are a few options of what I think might happen. 1. Sinestro can't contain the pure light but tries to he overwhelms himself and dies. I can't see this happening too much just because it would seem pointless. Green lantern would lose his greatest foe and people really wouldn't mourn. It would be a lackluster ending. 2. Sinestro becomes power hungry after he destroys the black lantern Corp. Possibly the beginning of the brightest day could be from the light of the white lantern Sinestro. The last option would be the destruction of the black lantern Corp by sinestro and afterwards he returns to his old self. Since the light has no host it disperses throughout the universe and makes the brightest day. Seems like the most obvious but it would bring everything back to normal. I might be completely wrong and how the writing has been going I'm sure there's going to be a giant curvebalk for Sinestro and the white lantern.

Bruce Wayne fights crime through time

As many have already guessed Bruce Wayne is returning. I'm a huge Bruce Wayne fan but even I'm trying to figure out how they're going to explain away that shot of superman carrying the dried up corpse of Batman in Final Crisis. It seems that Bruce will be going through generations of time and fighting crime in any form he pleases to even as a pirate or a caveman with a giant Bat on his head. All 6 of the covers for this series connect to create a huge poster. This seems like it could be a trippy one. Expect The return of Bruce wayne in May.

Thing is a New Avenger

Marvel released another New Avenger promo shot and this time it was Thing from Fantastic Four. The more members I see the more it's making me think the new avengers are going to be part of the Avengers and they're going to be from other teams of marvel almost like a U.N. for superheroes. One thing is for sure the new avengers have some major heavy hitters.

First Wave #1 and Amazing Spider-man #623

There wasn't that much action on the Dc's side of the camp this week with the exception of First wave #1 with Doc Savage, the Spirit, and Batman or atleast Batman was suppose to be there. Since I'm already talking about it i'll start off with First Wave.

Review #1- First Wave #1 - In the the style of classic story team ups DC compiles the stories of Doc Savage,The Spirit, and Batman. It starts off with a simple backstory of what seems to be Doc Savage. Now I'm probably wrong about this but this is the first time I've read any Doc Savage so I apologize now if I'm wrong. This little tale jumps right in as the press awaits Doc Savage at a cemetary. Right after this it goes right into The Spirit sleeping in a open grave. Sure this is a very common writing device but it just made it fun for me. It also made The Spirit seem really badass. I don't know what it was but it was a really cool panel. This was a solid beginning to a series and a nice throwback to classic comics. It also makes the non super powered heroes seem very relevant to this setting. It's nice to see that. I give First Wave #1 3.5 out of 5. My reason for the lower score was because the complete absence of Batman now maybe they're building him up but he should have been in it atleast at the end.

Review #2 - Amazing Spider-man #623
Spidey has been on a roll lately. Every week it's been a fun story with great artwork. This issue brings the same but the story lacked for me compared to the others. The main villian this week was Vulture but the comic started off with Electro breaking him out. Which means we should be seeing an epic Electro vs. Spidey fight in a few weeks. It was really interesting to see a villian introduce the issue but then not fight the superhero. At first I thought it was cool but by the end I was wishing for Electro to come out so I could stop reading frankenvulture trying to talk. I'm on the fence with the new vulture but atleast spidey had a few good one liners against him especially about the old vulture. I would say if you haven't been reading spiderman you can jump in any issue which I really enjoy. I give Amazing Spider-man #623 a four out if five. It was an alright issue but not amazing. There were also some panels that seemed rushed with the drawing. I hope the writers keep with the weekly concept it's really working out well.

X-Men Hope and The Ultimates Reviews

This week was dominated by Marvel. Dc didn't have too many options but I did pick up First Wave which I'll be reviewing with The Amazing Spider-man. Just a little preview for First Wave it has tons of Batman in it! I mean I was so surprised by how much he was actually in it. I just couldn't wrap my mind around just how much he hogged of the first issue. Okay hopefully people understand just how sarcastic I was being there. I won't bash it too much though I thought it was a good beginning. On to the marvel comics this week and with that comes my first review.

Review #1 - X-Men: Hope - This is a story that seems incredible too rushed for me. I had no idea it was a one-shot until I bought which really bummed me out. I thought this could have easily made a five part or maybe even ten part series. I know this is probably just anyway to push X-Men second coming but the whole story is rushed and slammed together. I enjoyed Cable in the tough father figure role and Hope having no clue as to why she had to deal with all this madness. The art was what I expected from Steve Dillion but it seem to fit the story very well. If I had to choice the best part of the comic I would choose the shot of cable smiling in the window after he just got kicked in the face by Hope. He seemed so pride of his little companion. I was hoping for more from Hope and Cable but this seems to be where it stops which is the most upsetting part. As a one-shot it was enjoyable and I give X-Men: Hope a 4 out of 5. Everything fit very well  and it was a short fun story I just wish it wasn't so rushed.

Review #2 - New Ultimates # 1 - I have to point out I was never a huge ultimate universe person. I tried and tried to get into Ultimate Spider-man and failed every time. It wasn't really about them change the design of characters because that's what every new generation does I think it was the writing. Bendis is really hit or miss for me. I like alot of his work but sometimes he seems to try too hard to be original. Now not that I'm saying it's Bendis I'm just saying he was responsible for Ultimate Spider-man and he isn't even writing New Ultimates  Jeph Loeb is. Speaking of Jeph Loeb I really don't know what to think of Fall of Hulks. It seems so out there even for Hulk. Its like they have the theory of if there are bad characters that are boing lets add twenty more of them. So needless to say I wasn't expecting much walking into New Ultimates but I was very surprised what I found. What made me interested was the fold out cover. I mean that was just awesome. I am really enjoying the artwork. It's very well done and there is so much detail. I can't think of the last time I got a huge fold out spread like that. It was really a nice surprise. They did a good job bringing everyone into the world explaining about ultimatum but very loosely. Just a few sentences but it brought your attention to it immediately. What I like about it was the narration by Tony Stark. It shows how the Ultimates have been torn apart. They've lost a few members and Thor is in another dimension being harassed for his body. It also did a good job showing how Iron Man, Thor , and Captain America are the leaders and how they differ. They were all confronted by women and they all made their own decisions which seem to fit those characters so good. When it comes down to it if the reader is open to being part of a different world and the characters being slightly different they will have a good time reading this book. I know I did. If they keep up the good work I think this could be a very entertaining and long series. I give New Ultimates #1 Five out of Five.

There you have two of this weeks comics and there is more to come. I hope you like the new reviews and I'll be trying to put out more and more every week.

Iron Man Legacy Movie Variant

With the launch of Iron Man's second upcoming series Marvel has released a movie variant for the first issue. It shows all of the Iron Man armors used in the movie and the second movie. Iron Man Legacy brings a huge crisis down on Tony Stark when prototypes of the Iron Man suit are stolen and are doing damage all over the place. Iron Man Legacy comes out April 7th 2010.

Robin turns on Batman

Ms. Talia al Ghul has spun a tricky little web around Robin's mind and Robin is on a hunt for Batman. With all this Batman on Robin action it also tie-ins with the Return of the original Batman Bruce Wayne. Batman and Robin #10 is written by Grant Morrison and Andy Clarke coming in this issue to begin art on the series. I can't wait to see this issue! It comes out March 10.

Wolverine to join Spider-man as a New Avenger

It was announced today that Wolverine will again be a New Avenger. I see that as a bit confusing because he's on the Avenger #1 cover. Will Wolverine be on both avenger teams? Or maybe all of the avenger teams will be under the same tent like the x-men were with the gold and blue teams? In my opinion that's the plan by bendis. The avengers will probably be just the core of the very original Avengers. Thor , Iron Man, Hawk-eye, and Steve as the lovable butler (if they do this I will buy so many more copies! ). New Avengers starts back up in June and it will definitely be interesting to see how three different Avenger teams work together.

Autographed drawing from Flash #1

Ever since Flash came back to the DC universe he has been very popular. Flash has been the co- main character of Blackest night and has had two mini - series about him during Blackest Night ( Flash : Reborn , Blackest Night: The Flash). To promote Flash's first issue of his new full time series Dc will have the creative team sign an original drawing from Flash #1. Starting April 7th Dc's twitter will be asking questions about Flash. The first five people who answer correctly will be eligible to win a signed copy of Flash #1. Stay tuned for more details about the contest.

Comics listed for this year's Free Comic Book Day

Free comic book day has been a huge success and it continues this year. All the notable publishers will have comics released just for Free Comic book Day. Here they are.

DC : War of Supermen #0 - The war between 100,000 supermen and Earth begins here. Who will Superman side with? Will he team up with the supermen or fight for his adoptive home?
Dark Horse : Doctor Solar / Magnus : A rehash of two of Dark Horses most compelling characters. This is a preview for both of their new series starting in the Summer.

Marvel : Iron Man / Thor : Thor and Iron Man work together in the first time in a very long time. I can't even remember the last time I saw these two even named together. It's always been an interesting coupling because Thor is a god and Iron Man thinks he's one. This will also showcase the two in time for both of their series' new directions. John Romita Jr. will be doing the art and Matt Fraction will be the writer.

Top Comics for March 03 2010

This is a top three list of Comics I'm most interested to read the day before they come out. They aren't reviews just comics that seem the most appealing to buy.

In The Third Place : Amazing Spider-man #623 - The reason Amazing is on the list this week is because lately the writing and the drawing has been top notch. It is a comic that anyone can pick up and enjoy. You really don't have to know what happened last week to enjoy it. It reminds me of the old style of comic writing where each week loosely is involved with each other. 623 involves Spidey going against the Vulture but also his alter ego Peter Parker. Peter has to decide what's more important Spider-Man or his photography career.

Runner-up - X-Men Hope #1 - With Marvel's latest X-men push it seems like X-men will finally get their well deserved stop in the lime light. X-Men Hope #1 tells the tale of Hope Summers and Cable. Hope might be the only chance that humanity has in the future world. The part that interests me is the fact that it is hope summers which means they might be toying with bringing back Jean. I think this would be great for X-men and it also gives the chance to see another side of the Phoenix Arc.Duane Swierczynski and Steve Dillon are the creators of the new series. Steve Dillion has always been a favorite artist of mine ever since his work in Wolverine Origins. I've never been one for the futuristic side of X-men (mainly cable) but this story seems like it could affect the whole X-men universe past, present, and future.

Top Comic to buy for March 03, 2010 - Invincible Iron Man #24 - Stark : Disassembled comes to a conclusion. This arc has been nothing but gold. The writing always drags me in and the art work wins me over and over again every issue. If you are not reading this series I would begin reading it with the beginning of the Stark : Disassembled arc. The series has been showing tony stark's fall from being leader of almost everyone during Civil War and his breakdown afterwards. What could be better than seeing Tony loose his mind and try to collect the pieces with the help from his friends. This series is a must read and I recommend you going out and buying it tomorrow just like I'm going to!

I just wanted to say I'm not bashing any other comic book publisher by just doing Marvel this week. It just how I felt the top three went. DC really didn't have anything too amazing coming out this week. I will check out the new mini series involving Batman, Doc Savage, and The spirit. I just wanted to point that out because trust me if there was a blackest night related comic coming out this week it probably would have been on this list.

Preview of Avengers Prime: Siege Aftermath #1

The original core of the Avengers have been through a whole hell of a lot in the past few years. The initial seperation was caused by Civil War which pitted best friends against each other as bitter enemies. After the Dark reign of Norman Osbourne boiled over with the Siege of Asgard these core members of the Avengers will join forces once again. Though they are allies again it isn't a easy path to trusting each other fully again. Avengers Prime will deal with the issues that Steve Rogers, Thor, and Iron man all had with each other. It was also show just how they are going to get past the past. Avengers Prime: Siege Aftermath will be a five issue bi-weekly release starting in June written by Brian Bendis and drawn by Alan Davis.

Blackest Night 08 Cover revealed

The last issue of the huge DC event is coming closer and closer. With the edition of it being the final issue it will also have an additional 10 pages for no extra charge. Blackest Night 8 comes out in March and I can't wait to see what or who the White Lantern will be my guess it'll be someone different then in Blackest Night 07.

Francis Manapul's Flash

Francis Manapul is known for his work in Action comics and with the restart of Flash he looks to be putting his best work forward. He will be working on the Flash for the first year of the project. Francis Manapul's artwork brings a classic feel but newer design to well known villians and Heroes from Central city.

Read First Wave #01 with Jim Lee and Geoff Johns!

As a way to push interest with the new Brian Azzarello and Rags Morales comic. Jim lee and Geoff Johns will be reading the issue on twitter. First Wave is a noir style team up of Doc Savage, The Spirit, and The Batman. The reading begins at 3pm Wednesday which gives plenty of time to run out and get your copy of First Wave.

First look at Siege: Fallen

Marvel released another teaser shot involving Siege. The picture involves very well known hands grabbing a man/ or very manly women who appears to be dying or passed out. Siege shows the downfall of Norman Osbourne but I also see this as the downfall of Sentry. He has just become to crazy. I can't see him being involved with the next guy in charge of everything (Steve Rogers?). Whatever the case may be it looks like somebody won't make it out of Siege. Siege: Fallen comes out in April.

Incarnate creator Nick Simmons reacts to plagiarism claims

Allegations of plagiarism sprang up after people noticed panels in Incarnate that seem very similar to Bleach panels. The artists left a formal statement on a popular website.

“Like most artists I am inspired by work I admire. There are certain similarities between some of my work and the work of others. This was simply meant as an homage to artists I respect, and I definitely want to apologize to any Manga fans or fellow Manga artists who feel I went too far. My inspirations reflect the fact that certain fundamental imagery is common to all Manga. This is the nature of the medium. I am a big fan of Bleach, as well as other Manga titles. And I am certainly sorry if anyone was offended or upset by what they perceive to be the similarity between my work and the work of artists that I admire and who inspire me.”

What I think is the most interesting part of all this is why of all manga would he copy Bleach. I know there are fans of the manga but the story is just non existent. I've read through many manga and I couldn't bring myself to get to the half way point of Bleach. This really isn't something new to the comic world or manga world though. One example was a panel to panel example of Dragon Ball and Narauto. I was suprised at first that Radical ( the publisher of the comic) suspended the printing until further review but the more I think about it. It was a good decision to listen to the fans and show they don't allow this amateurish behavior in their comics.Take a look at one of the panel comparison I think you'll see what everyone is talking about.

Preview for Siege: Loki

Loki gets his spot in the sun with this one-shot by writer Kieron Gillen and artist Jamie McKelvie. You might know them from Image's "Phonogram". In the One-shot the story of why Loki would go out of his way to let Norman Osbourne achieve his goals with Asgard is revealed. With Loki involved mischief must be a major factor that and the destruction of Asgard. Siege: Loki comes out in April which seems a bit late for Siege tie ins. I'm hoping with this One-shot the origin of Siege will be less foggy which is one of my major complaints with it so far. Oh and there isn't enough crazy long haired blonde guys in it. Nah I'm just kidding there's more than enough there for me.
